About Marie McCabe

Marie McCabe is a licensed certified social worker in the state of New Jersey and New York. She is currently attending a doctoral program for Clinical Social Work at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She has been practicing clinical social work, psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis for over 25 years. Her years in the field include working in school systems, hospitals, community mental health centers, and private practice. She has treated countless individuals, couples, families and groups. She has been the Director of a Community Mental Health Clinic in Manhattan, as well as, Director of a School Based Mental Health Center in a High School. In addition, she is the co-founder of the first school of acupuncture in the state of New Jersey. Her education is equally diverse.

Ms. McCabe completed her undergraduate degree in European History at Drew University and went on to complete her Masters in Social Work at New York University. She studied Modern Psychoanalysis at the Mid-Manhattan Institute in New York City. She also completed the graduate program for Educational Leadership at New Jersey City University. She is bilingual and bicultural in Spanish and English. She also has a strong commitment in community service, volunteering for various causes. She offers those looking for help a rich firsthand experience in direct treatment, but also draws from experiences in business, management, education, and leadership.

Philosophy & Mission Statement

The challenge of a psychotherapist is to resonate with the patient’s uniqueness and at the same time understand how the universality of the human condition presents itself in the person’s concerns. All persons looking for help in their emotional and psychic realms deserve to be treated with patience, compassion, and honesty. The style in treatment is caring yet direct. The belief is that therapists should partner with patients in bringing about change and healing. The involvement of the two—the purposeful exchange of energy between patient and therapist is the catalyst for a corrective emotional experience
